Swim Lesson Policies and Guidelines

Parents and Guardians must be present in the aquatic center during their child’s swim lesson.  This helps us if your child needs to use the bathroom, to be extra eyes watching the water and to applaud new skills achieved.  Your applause means so much to them!  However, it is never appropriate for a parent to become overly involved in the lesson or try to instruct.  That’s what we are here for.

When signing up your child for swim lessons please check out our lesson descriptions and find what best fits your child.  If you have a question of what lesson to place your child in just ask and we will help asses your child to get them in the appropriate class.

All classes have a minimum of 3 participants per class and a maximum of 5 for ages 3-5 and 7 for ages 6+.  Classes may be combined or canceled due to low enrollment.

You can register online in person or over the phone at 330-832-1621.  Registration closes 3 days before the class starts or when the class becomes full.

There will not be any make-up’s or credits given for personal absences.  If we must cancel for any reason on our end you will receive a phone call and a make-up will be scheduled or you will be given a credit.

If you have a concern about the way the swim lessons are going please tell us.  We understand that you are extremely interested in your child’s success with swim lessons.  We are too!  If you should ever have concerns please address them with us immediately!  First, give us 2 lessons to fall into a routine and get the group used to working together.  Second, communicate with your child’s instructor.  Address them as you would like to be addressed.  The Sandwich Theory: say something positive, voice the concern and end with something positive.  Third, if you are not satisfied with the results please contact the Aquatics Supervisor so she can help your swimmer.

Mom and me

Parent Child Aquatics is for ages 6 months to 3 years old.  An adult is required in the water for each lesson in proper swim attire.  This class is an introduction to the water, singing songs, kicking, blowing bubbles and parent and child basic water safety.

Preschool – Water Exploration is for ages 2 1/2 years to 5 years old.  Adult is required in the water in proper swim attire for the first 4 weeks of the lesson (the instructor might ask you to stay in all 7 weeks if they feel the child will benefit more with the parent in the water).  This class helps transition from the parent being in the water to just an instructor led class.  Beginner swim skills are taught such as floating, kicking, submerged head and arm movement.

Level 1

Level 1 is broken up into two different age groups, 3-5 and 6+.  This class will teach the beginner swim skills: floating, kicking, underwater submersion, arm movement and water safety.

Level 2

Level 2 is broken up into two age groups, ages 3-5 years old and 6+.  YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE PASSED LEVEL 1. Your child must be comfortable in the water including underwater submersion.  Should be able to float and kick independently.

Level 3

Level 3, MUST HAVE PASSED LEVEL 2.  Your child must be able to swim independently.  This class focuses on the development of new strokes (breaststroke, butterfly kick and elementary backstroke) and defines already learned strokes.
